Adding some Campbell’s® French Onion Soup to ground beef is an amazing way to amp up your burgers’ flavor, while turning your patties into smashburgers cuts down on cooking time and gives you those deliciously crisp, lacy edges. Toss in some fresh caramelized onion and Swiss cheese and you’ve just elevated burger night.
Step 1
Season the beef with kosher salt and pepper and add 1/4 of the can of Campbells® Condensed French Onion Soup. Divide and shape the beef into 6 equal-sized balls.
Step 2
Heat a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat and add the oil. Add the burgers in batches and press down on the burgers to flatten them, and flip. Repeat pressing down until burgers are crispy and browned. Remove the burgers from the skillet and turn the heat down to medium. Pour off any fat, leaving about a teaspoon or so of oil in the pan.
Step 3
Add the sliced onions to the pan. Sauté until the onions become softened and have some caramelization then add the garlic. Sauté for 2-3 minutes then add the remaining Campbells® Condensed French Onion Soup and mix well. Add the burgers back into the pan, scoop some of the remaining French onion soup mixture on the top of the burgers and top with the sliced cheese. Turn the heat off and let the cheese melt. Serve on burger buns with arugula, if desired. ENJOYMENT TIP: serve any additional soup mixture on the side for dipping.
